Lesson 4: When the Ground Itself Is Shaking

TREE ANALOGY — WEEK 4

Lesson 4: When the Ground Itself Is Shaking

This is my voice. This is my belief.

Something is happening—quietly, steadily, and dangerously—in our world today.

The ground beneath us is shifting.

Institutions we trusted are losing moral clarity.
Truth is being negotiated.
Faith is being repackaged.
Power is being normalized without accountability.

And many people feel it in their spirit, even if they cannot yet name it.

This is not a coincidence.
This is what happens when roots are tested.

WHAT THE TREE TEACHES US IN THIS MOMENT

A tree does not panic when the ground shakes.
But it does reveal whether its roots were deep—or merely comfortable.

Week 4 is about stability during instability.

Because there comes a moment when it is no longer enough to say I believe.
The question becomes: What are you anchored to?

When the soil shifts:

  • shallow roots reach for noise
  • weak roots cling to personalities
  • confused roots mistake certainty for truth

But a rooted tree does something different.

It stays still.

WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY

We are watching people trade discernment for belonging.
We are watching faith become louder and less compassionate.
We are watching fear shape beliefs more than truth.

And silence is being sold as peace.

But silence, in moments like this, is not neutral.
It is fertilizer for extremism.

When lies grow unchecked, they grow roots.
When injustice is ignored, it stabilizes itself.
When people stop asking hard questions, systems stop answering.

A tree that refuses to examine its roots will eventually fall.

THE PERSONAL CALL OF WEEK 4

This lesson asks each of us to slow down and examine:

What voices shape my thinking right now?
What am I afraid to question?
Where have I confused loyalty with truth?

Because storms do not ask for your permission.
But they do demand your honesty.

SIGNATURE AWAKE VOICE QUOTES

Roots exposed are not a failure—they are an invitation.
What you refuse to question will eventually control you.
Faith without discernment is dangerous.
Silence in the face of truth is still a choice.
If the ground is shaking, check your roots—not your neighbors.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS (BEFORE LESSON 5)

Please sit with these before moving on.

What feels unstable in the world right now—and why?

What beliefs have I accepted without examination?

Where have I remained silent to stay comfortable?

Who benefits from my silence?

If my roots were exposed today, what would they reveal?

CLOSING

The tree does not argue with the storm.
It reveals itself to it.

And in seasons like this, what matters most is not how tall you stand—but what holds you up.

This is my voice. This is my belief.

Youth in Nigeria: Agitations, Accountability, and the Urgent Need for Strategic Rethinking

Youth in Nigeria: Agitations, Accountability, and the Urgent Need for Strategic Rethinking Author: Dr. Nana Akaeze and Dr. Christian O. Akaeze Abstract Nigerian youths have become more vocal and active in recent years. They now use social media and other platforms to speak up against bad leadership and failed systems. This is a positive change because many generations before now remained silent. However, some of today’s youths are taking the wrong path. Instead of promoting unity, they are spreading hate, division, tribalism, and even violence. Some are now calling for the breakup of Nigeria, believing that forming new nations will solve our problems. This article explains why that approach is harmful and how a better solution is to adopt regional governance within a united Nigeria. It also highlights how youths must take responsibility, embrace peaceful and innovative strategies, and focus on building a better country for all. Introduction: Youths Are Now Speaking Up ...

Rethinking Confraternities Within Higher Institutions in Nigeria: A Case for Registration, Reform, and National Unity

By Dr. Nana Akaeze and Dr. Chris Akaeze A Joint Reflection for The Awake Voice Date: June 1 st , 2025 Abstract Confraternities in Nigerian tertiary institutions are commonly associated with violence and secrecy, overshadowing their origins in civic activism, academic excellence, and brotherhood. This perspective challenges prevailing narratives by arguing for a shift from suppression to structured reform and engagement. Drawing from the historical evolution of groups like the Pyrates and Buccaneers Confraternities, the study highlights their civic roles in youth mentorship, health outreach, and interethnic solidarity. In an era marked by ethnic tension, misinformation, and digital radicalization, the loyalty frameworks within these groups have helped mitigate tribal conflicts and maintain democratic stability. This perspective proposes policy responses, including government regulation, civic reorientation, and the establishment of oversight mechanisms. If reformed and in...

WHEN SILENCE BECOMES A DANGER

WHEN SILENCE BECOMES A DANGER: By Dr. Nana Akaeze | Dr. Chris Akaeze TO PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU ON NIGERIA’S RISING INSECURITY By Dr. Nana Akaeze | The Awake Voice This is my voice. This is my belief. Because leadership is not applause—it is responsibility. Because a government that cannot protect its people is a government standing on a cracked foundation. Because silence in the face of rising bloodshed is not diplomacy—it is abandonment. Nigeria is blee--ding again loudly and the silence from those in power is deafening. A Major General was abducted and later confirmed dead. Citizens are being unalived in their homes, on the highways, in their farms, and in their communities. Bandits have turned Nigerian forests into kingdoms and citizens into prey. Children wake up to gunshots and go to bed with fear as their lullaby. And yet… Where is the government’s voice? Where is the national address? Where is the comfort for the grieving family of the General? Where is the outrage for ...
