The Awake Voice December 1st: Turn Over a New Leaf — Before You Poison Your Own Roots

The Awake Voice

December 1st: Turn Over a New Leaf — Before You Poison Your Own Roots

This is my voice. This is my belief.
Because truth is not trending—but it is necessary.
Because healing is not easy—but it is urgent.
Because transformation does not begin in a new year—it begins in the roots.

A tree does not collapse because the wind is too strong.
A tree collapses because the roots were neglected long before the storm arrived.

This is the forgotten wisdom of life.
This is the awakening December calls us to embrace.

The Hidden Roots of Our Lives

Every tree grows upward only because something grows downward.
Roots—silent, unseen, patient—carry the responsibility of life.

They feed the trunk.
Strengthen the branches.
Sustain the fruits.

In human life, our roots are our values, character, relationships, discipline, and humility.
Your tree may look weak now, not because you lack potential—but because you have neglected the roots that should sustain it.

And many do this without even knowing:

  • Competing with people who are not competing with them
  • Resenting friends instead of studying their growth
  • Withholding support while expecting support
  • Celebrating strangers while attacking their own

We poison our own soil and wonder why our tree refuses to bloom.

Envy: The Slow Poison in the Soil

Envy is not just a feeling—it is a spiritual toxin.

It dries up the soil that is meant to nourish you.
It blinds you to your own progress.
It keeps you stuck in battles God never assigned to you.

Nothing grows in poisoned soil—heal your roots before you expect fruits. — Dr. Nana Akaeze

If you admire strangers more than your own community…
If you celebrate celebrities but resent your peers…
If you clap for the world but criticize your own…

Then you are starving the very roots that should carry you into 2026.

Blooming Is a Choice—Not an Accident

No flower looks at the next flower and says, “I must outshine you.”
It simply blooms when nourished.

Your life’s blooming is not determined by others—it is determined by your roots:

  • What you feed your soul
  • What you celebrate
  • What you believe about yourself
  • What you pour into others
  • What you release from your heart

If you fear success and resent those who succeed, you are closer to failure than you think. — Dr. Nana Akaeze

This December, ask yourself:

What am I feeding my roots?
Faith or fear?
Growth or gossip?
Purpose or pettiness?
Healing or hatred?

Because roots respond to what you feed them.

Turning the Page to 2026: Redemption

As the year draws to its close, December offers one final gift: the chance to choose differently.

You do not have to enter 2026 with bitterness, envy, insecurity, or silent competition weighing you down.

You can choose restoration.
You can choose healing.
You can choose maturity.
You can choose to water your tree again.

Your life will not flourish until your heart stops fighting itself. — Dr. Nana Akaeze

Water Your Tree—Not Someone Else’s Downfall

Support your friend’s dream.
Celebrate your brother’s win.
Stand behind your sister’s progress.
Speak life into your community.

Because when one tree blooms, the fragrance blesses the whole forest.

When you water others, you water yourself.
When you nurture your roots, your future answers you.
When you heal envy, you open the door for grace.

And where grace is present, disgrace cannot survive.

A December Commitment

As 2026 approaches, let this be your vow:

I will water my roots.
I will celebrate growth in others.
I will stop sabotaging my own soil.

I will choose maturity over envy.
I will nourish the greatness within me.

Your tree can still bloom.
Your branches can still stretch.
Your roots can still heal.
Your future can still flourish.

But growth begins with one choice:

Stop poisoning your roots. Start watering your life.

Youth in Nigeria: Agitations, Accountability, and the Urgent Need for Strategic Rethinking

Youth in Nigeria: Agitations, Accountability, and the Urgent Need for Strategic Rethinking Author: Dr. Nana Akaeze and Dr. Christian O. Akaeze Abstract Nigerian youths have become more vocal and active in recent years. They now use social media and other platforms to speak up against bad leadership and failed systems. This is a positive change because many generations before now remained silent. However, some of today’s youths are taking the wrong path. Instead of promoting unity, they are spreading hate, division, tribalism, and even violence. Some are now calling for the breakup of Nigeria, believing that forming new nations will solve our problems. This article explains why that approach is harmful and how a better solution is to adopt regional governance within a united Nigeria. It also highlights how youths must take responsibility, embrace peaceful and innovative strategies, and focus on building a better country for all. Introduction: Youths Are Now Speaking Up ...

Rethinking Confraternities Within Higher Institutions in Nigeria: A Case for Registration, Reform, and National Unity

By Dr. Nana Akaeze and Dr. Chris Akaeze A Joint Reflection for The Awake Voice Date: June 1 st , 2025 Abstract Confraternities in Nigerian tertiary institutions are commonly associated with violence and secrecy, overshadowing their origins in civic activism, academic excellence, and brotherhood. This perspective challenges prevailing narratives by arguing for a shift from suppression to structured reform and engagement. Drawing from the historical evolution of groups like the Pyrates and Buccaneers Confraternities, the study highlights their civic roles in youth mentorship, health outreach, and interethnic solidarity. In an era marked by ethnic tension, misinformation, and digital radicalization, the loyalty frameworks within these groups have helped mitigate tribal conflicts and maintain democratic stability. This perspective proposes policy responses, including government regulation, civic reorientation, and the establishment of oversight mechanisms. If reformed and in...

🇳🇬 The Rude Awakening: Why Did It Take a Foreign Voice to Shake Nigeria’s Conscience

By Dr. Nana Akaeze When pulpits go quiet and the poor are forgotten, the Gospel is not proclaimed—it is betrayed. This is my voice. This is my belief. Because faith was never meant to serve the powerful. It was meant to protect the poor. It was meant to confront injustice—not stay comfortable within it. Today, that silence has found a new disguise — a foreign voice claiming to “save” us from ourselves, and suddenly, everyone is awake. A Nation Awakened by a Stranger In the last few days, a wave of headlines and social media chatter has once again gripped Nigeria—this time sparked by a claim from a foreign political figure who says he wants to “save Christians” in Nigeria. Many cheered. Some prayed. Others panicked. But a few of us paused and asked the most important question: Why did it take a foreign voice to remind Nigeria that its people are dying? For years, Nigerians have been crying—villages burned, farmers slaughtered, students kidnapped, soldiers ambush...
