When the United States Department of State updated its Nigeria Travel Advisory on April 8, 2026, one phrase stood out with painful clarity: travelers were told to reconsider travel to Nigeria because of crime, terrorism, unrest, kidnapping, and “inconsistent availability of health care services.” That phrase should trouble every Nigerian leader. It should trouble President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It should trouble his cabinet. It should trouble every governor, senator, minister, political appointee, and public official who speaks beautifully about reform while quietly depending on foreign hospitals when their own health is at stake.
